I had a meeting at 8am that morning, so I was up at 7:30 preparing for it and getting ready for the day in general. Hohyun slept in a bit and woke up after my meeting ended at 9am. As I was working, he packed and cleaned everything then set out for the road.

We were desperately in need of coffee so we went to the Starbucks in the Safeway across the street to get some. As we were walking through the supermarket, we saw these yogurt granola cups that looked really good so we picked up a few for breakfast. It was nice eating something healthy in the morning. We immediately noticed that the weather was significantly better than the day before, so we went back to the legislative building to retake pictures. This started to seem like a trend.

On the way out, we passed by Andrew Scheer’s office (the old leader of the Conservative Party). I didn’t realize he was from Regina until then.

The drive to Saskatoon was pretty flat (even by Saskatchewan standards). There was one section of the highway that was kind of hilly, which was referred to by Christine the day prior as the “big hill” of Saskatchewan. Besides that, there wasn’t much remarkable about the drive and I was just working in the car. The service was pretty good overall and I was able to check emails and upload documents fine.

The first thing we did when we got to Saskatoon was to get gas at Costco. Right after that, we checked into our hotel (Super 8 by Wyndham Saskatoon Near Saskatoon Airport) because I had a meeting a bit later and needed to sit down. Hohyun moved our stuff in, then worked on other stuff on his computer while he was waiting. He thankfully was able to get us a room with an outdoor entrance, which made moving things in a lot simpler. After the meeting was done, Hohyun told me about the 3 things that we could see in Saskatoon (Saskatoon Zoo, an art gallery in Saskatoon, and Wanuskewin Heritage Park), but they all were closing soon so I could only pick one to do.

As someone who loves animals, I picked the Saskatoon Zoo. He dropped me off at the zoo (I thought he’d come with me) and went back to the hotel since he didn’t want to pay for something he didn’t want to see. He told me to call him after I was done so he’d come and get me.

The zoo was really nice and tranquil, but we had to pay for parking at the gate which we found to be a bit useless since he was only there to drop me off. I was able to get there with just the right amount of time to look at all the animals. There was a lot of one-way signage to promote social distancing, and there weren’t that many people there to begin with, which meant that I could look at the exhibits for as long as I wanted without having to move for other people. It was really hard picking a favourite animal.

An hour later, I called him to come and get me and we went to the art gallery (Remai Modern) next. We arrived a half-hour before closing and decided not to go in since it wouldn’t be worth it. Hohyun was pretty bummed out since he really wanted to see it, and we decided to go tomorrow before leaving Saskatoon. Since we now had an open evening, I wanted to go to a brewery so we went and got drinks at Shelter Brewing Company near the art gallery. We ordered 2 flights of beer (tried their whole beer menu) and I liked it all except for their dark beers (I’m not a fan of dark beer though). I also had a taco off their menu and that was pretty good too.

All our beer!

As we were getting the bill, we mentioned to the server that we weren’t from here but looking for dinner and wanted his local recommendations. He said that the pierogis were good if we wanted something good value or Vietnamese food. He also suggested we try their Saskatoon Berry Pie at The Berry Barn since It was something local to Saskatoon. We went to search for the berry pie afterwards, which was a 20 min drive from the brewing company.

The Berry Barn was located just outside of Saskatoon and had an in-house restaurant as well as a nice gift shop and views of the South Saskatchewan River. We decided to get an entire freshly baked pie to ourselves and bought postcards and Saskatoon Berry jam for our families. Right before we left, we went to the back of the building outside to take in the South Saskatchewan River. There was this nice gazebo rocking chair thing that I had a lot of fun sitting on, but we had to go since we were both getting really hungry.

We got Vietnamese food from Thien Vietnam on the way back to the hotel since, according to online reviews, this was the best food to get if we wanted good value food. When we got back to the hotel, we ate, watched Superstore, wrote our postcards, showered, and got ready for bed.

I also had time to catch up on my journaling, which was nice. He made me watch Contagion with him before we slept, which terrified me. We didn’t really plan out the next day’s drive, but at this point, our “default” was to leave by check out time latest (around 11am-12pm).
