I woke up at 6am to try and catch the sunrise at Cape Spear. Upon seeing the rain and grey clouds, I knew I wasn’t going to see anything, so I went back to sleep and woke up later. When I woke up, I decided to walk around Cape Spear and check out Canada’s easternmost point.
I first set off to find the sign saying that it was the easternmost point, and passed by Fort Cape Spear, a World War II coastal defence battery. There were also a lot of informative signs describing the history of Cape Spear. At the easternmost point sign, there was a nice view of the Atlantic Ocean, but I couldn’t see very far because of the fog and rain. I was, however able to see an iceberg next to the coast!

I went to explore the lighthouse after, which is also the oldest surviving one in the province. There were 2 of them; one which was the original constructed in 1836 but not in use anymore, and the current one, built in 1955, which is still in use. I was the only one there and it was so serene having the place entirely to myself. It was so freeing just standing facing the ocean, with the wind and rain just hitting my face.

All the buildings were closed unfortunately so I guess I’ll have to come back during the summer sometime to see these places again!
I had agreed to return the car at the airport at 2pm, so decided to run some errands beforehand. I had to pack my luggage and knew that it was going to be too heavy (re: the Calgary experience). Instead of wastefully throwing out my clothes, I decided to donate some of it to the Goodwill. After doing so, I was hungry and went to a restaurant nearby called Scampers that specialized in fish and chips, and it was the best batter I’ve ever eaten. The place was very local as well, which gave it bonus points.

I went to get gas afterwards and cleaned out the car, then went to the airport to drop off the car to Jarvis. At check-in, my luggage was still too heavy, but this time around, all I had to do was move some stuff into my carry on, which worked! I went through security and was 3 hours early (what a shocker, I know) for my flight, so I spent the time doing some work until my flight came.

Newfoundland was a blast and I’m proud to say that I’ve now finally visited all 12 provinces. I never thought that it would turn out this way but am happy with all the experiences and people that I’ve met. This is definitely a province worth visiting!
